Bird Watching

Bird Watching in Beavers Bend

A variety of bird species can be seen soaring overhead in any corner of the Beavers Bend resort area, but the wetlands, marshes, lakes, streams and forests of the nearby Red Slough Wildlife Management are the prime destination for the serious bird watcher.

Covering nearly 6,000 acres and home to more than 324 species of birds, the Red Slough has been compared to the Gulf Coast habitats of Louisiana and Florida thanks to common sightings of rare species such as the roseate spoonbill, purple gallinule, white ibis, wood stork, yellow rail and black-bellied whistling duck.

Perhaps most exciting for bird watchers of all stripes, bald eagles are frequently spotted soaring overhead in the area, especially in the winter months.
