On the eve of the Bigfoot Festival, explore the Beavers Bend

Every October, hundreds of the curious and obsessed descend on Honobia in LeFlore County, just north of the Beavers Bend border, for the annual Honobia Bigfoot Festival & Conference. The mythic Sasquatch is said to reside in the forests of the Kiamichis across LeFlore and McCurtain, and many of the festival’s guests stay in cabins around the Beavers Bend, including in Broken Bow and Idabel.

Though the festival takes place the first weekend of October (Friday and Saturday), there are plenty of reasons to book your cabin a few extra days leading up to the gathering. Here are three reasons to pre-game in Beavers Bend.

1. The Cabins — Take some extra time to enjoy them

How do we put this… A Beavers Bend cabin ain’t your grandpa’s log hut. These luxurious, sprawling structures might be nestled deep in the forest, but inside they’re anything but primitive. Enjoy the creature comforts of home—like cozy hot tubs, large, fully functioning kitchens, and television and WiFi.

2. The Outdoors — Before you focus on Bigfoot, explore the lay of the land

Autumn in Beavers Bend is a heavenly delight for adventurers—the air has turned crisp, the leaves are changing, and the true beauty of the region is on full display. Even as the air cools, there’s still plenty to do outdoors. You can angle the streams or troll the lakes, hike the Kiamichis or ride horseback along the Mountain Fork—or just build a crackling campfire near your cabin, roast marshmallows, and marvel at the clear brilliance of the stars above.

3. The Crowds — Beat them and enjoy the local culture of McCurtain’s quaint towns

Before you make the short trek to Honobia to join your fellow Sasquatchers, settle into your cabin a few days early and explore everything Beavers Bend has to offer. Taste the locally produced food and drink, shop the Main Street boutiques, and mingle with the locals of towns like Idabel, Broken Bow, and Hochatown.

Even if Bigfoot isn’t your thing, there are plenty of reasons to travel to Beavers Bend for a midweek escape—these are just the tip of the iceberg. Beat the crowds and reserve a cabin today.
