Ouachita National Forest
The Ouachita National Forest is a vast wonderland of breathtaking scenery and a haven for outdoor recreation of all kinds.
The mountains, streams, rivers and lakes that surround the forest are a dream setting for the many activities available to visitors. An extensive system of trails winds through the forest for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding.
But the main event for many visitors to the Ouachita National Forest is ATV riding. All-terrain vehicles are perfect for the area, though their use is limited to maintained roads only and is not allowed on the forest floor. (For more detailed information on the rules, restrictions, permit requirements, safety regulations and vehicle laws, please visit our ATV Facts Information page.)
Nature hikes or scenic drives are favorites of visitors year-round, with the fall foliage coming to especially vibrant life in the months of October and November. Those who relish learning about the history and heritage of an area can visit a variety of wayside exhibits that feature educational and informational resources detailing the area’s unique botanical, mineral and prehistoric highlights.
