Getting Started with your Directory Listing

A little polish goes a long way. The right photos, words, and details can be the reason someone books their trip.

The new Beavers Bend Cabin Country website makes it easier than ever for businesses and attractions to show up in front of visitors. What was once reserved for cabin owners is now wide open—restaurants, outfitters, shops, guides, you name it. If you’ve got something worth experiencing, you’ve got a place here.

If you haven’t already, go ahead and create your account. Once you’re logged in, you can swing by the “Claim a Listing” page to make it official. From there, it’s all about how you tell your story.

So, what separates a solid listing from a so-so one? Let’s talk about it.

Lead With a Knockout Photo

First impressions matter. Your cover photo is the opening handshake, the welcome mat, the thing that can stop a casual scroller in their tracks. Don’t waste it on a logo against a plain background.

Instead, aim for a bright, clear, widescreen shot (16:9 ratio works perfectly on mobile and desktop). Restaurants might spotlight a signature dish. Outfitters might show happy guests gearing up for the day. The key? Energy and clarity. Let people see what they’re getting.

Tell a Story, Not Just the Facts

Every great listing starts with a vivid description. This is your chance to paint a picture—literally let visitors imagine the atmosphere before they arrive. Is your restaurant known for that plate of catfish that practically sizzles off the table? Do you have live music on Saturday nights, or a view that makes folks linger a little longer over dessert?

A strong description isn’t a novel. Think 100–150 words, short focused paragraphs, and clear language that an eighth grader could breeze through. You’re not writing for a brochure committee—you’re talking to people looking for their next memory

Show Us Around

That cover photo sets the stage, but the gallery gives the full performance. Think variety: the exterior of your building, a shot of your team in action, your top-selling entrée, maybe even a glimpse of your menu.

Menus, by the way, are gold. A clear menu photo can be the tipping point between “maybe later” and “let’s go tonight.”

Hours: More Important Than You Think

Time runs a little differently in Cabin Country. Visitors aren’t locked into the usual 9-to-5—they’re on vacation mode, sometimes deciding where to eat at 2 PM or where to kayak at 7 AM.

That’s why having clear, accurate hours is a big deal. List your open days and times neatly (something like “Monday – Friday, 9 AM – 8 PM” works great). Don’t forget to note any seasonal changes or closures—nothing frustrates a guest more than showing up to a locked door.

Give People Their Next Move

A good listing doesn’t just inform—it nudges people to act. Once you’ve sparked interest, make it easy for them to take the next step.

Link to your website or social channels if you’ve got them. Add a reservation link if you use Resy, OpenTable, or even a simple Google form. For activities, a booking calendar can be the difference between someone deciding on the spot or losing interest.

Why It All Matters

Here’s the thing: a great listing doesn’t just make you look good—it helps the whole Cabin Country ecosystem thrive. The clearer your story, the better the photos, the more accurate the info… the easier it is for visitors to plan their trip. And when people plan better, they stay longer. They spend more. They come back.

So take the time to polish your listing. A few minutes now could mean a whole lot of new customers later.

TL;DR: The Quick Do’s and Don’ts

Do:

  • Write a clear, inviting description (100–150 words)
  • Use a bright, widescreen cover photo that feels alive
  • Add a gallery with variety (building, people, food, menu)
  • Keep your hours accurate and easy to read
  • Include links (website, socials, reservations) for next steps

Don’t:

  • Rely on just a logo or dark, grainy photos
  • Skip the menu if you’re a restaurant
  • Let old or inaccurate hours stay posted
  • Overload the description with fluff—keep it focused
