5 Reasons Your Dog Would Pick Beavers Bend for a Vacation

We want to be on vacation with people we like. That’s why so many of us travel with pets. Good thing Beavers Bend, Oklahoma can already brag about being one of the more pet-friendly destinations in the region.

We’re talking pet-friendly cabins, dining decks, trails and even the lakes and rivers. The photo-ops alone make the woods and water of southeastern Oklahoma an Instagramer’s dream. Imagine these shots: Dog standing in crystal clear river. Dog chasing stick into lake. Dog living best life? Here are our top five reasons to bring your pet on vacation with you.

1. People-Friendly Dog Cabins

Picture this, you’re out on the back deck of your luxury cabin overlooking the morning mist rising off a cool stream nearby. Thousands of pine trees surrounding you, doing their best to delay the sunrise.  But with your pooch and a cupa porch coffee, you’re ready to enjoy every non-scheduled minute of the day. It all starts when you check that pet-friendly box in the filter of the find your cabin page. You’ll be spoiled for pet-friendly cabins to the point of having trouble narrowing your choices. Choose a remote cabin in a scenic location, one near the state park and Broken Bow Lake, or one close to the amenities of Hochatown, Broken Bow, or Idabel. The only trouble you might have is deciding which pet-friendly cabin and location you like best.

2. Patios for You and Your Pooch

Pets are welcome on most of the patios of Beavers Bend. It’s a good idea to double check with the owner first, but usually it’s not a problem. You and your bestie can start with a morning joe at a local coffee slinger (no chains) and finish with a recharge session on the deck patio of a local eatery after a long day on the lake. We try not to let anyone leave Beavers Bend hungry. And we’ve gotten pretty good at that.

3. Drool-worthy Breweries

Sample a crazy-wide variety of locally brewed premium beers from lagers and hoppy ales to more daring seasonal brews. (Jalapeño Ale anyone?). Both Beavers Bend and Mountain Fork Breweries have pet-friendly outdoor patios perfect for an afternoon pick-me-up or evening wind-me-down with pups and friends.  They also offer cans or growlers to take with you back to your cabin or to pack home to remember your trip. On the chance you get beered-out there are four wineries- Girls Gone Wine, Knotted Rope Winery, Fish Tales and Vojai’s Winery offering tastings and take away bottles. All wineries are either dog-friendly or have dog-friendly patios.

4. Dips in Clear, Refreshing Lake Water On a Hot Summer Day

McCurtainCounty is home to Beavers Bend State Park, Broken Bow Lake and the Lower Mountain Fork River. That’s a lot of clear mountain-fed water for you and your pet to splash down, swim in or float on for hours. Rent a canoe or kayak at River Rats in Broken Bow and get into the nooks and crannies. Or rent a pontoon boat at Beavers Bend Marina and take your dog out for a joy ride, swim, fetch sticks, bark at trophy-worthy bass or just cruise your cares away with your First Mate Fido.

5. Hikes with Water

A few miles of hiking is a great way to give you and your pup a mental workout as well as a physical one. Put in the miles while seeing some of the most beautiful country in the U.S. Start with these great trails with some water or scenic vistas for photo ops with pups. Spillway Loop is an especially beautiful 4 mile loop with both rushing and calm water. Try Tree Trail  just behind the Forest Heritage Center Museum in the park for an easy, 1.2 mile loop that winds to Beaver Creek. Or try the Lookout Mountain Loop – a little harder, and good for getting the energy out. There are countless trails to see and experience, some dry, most shaded, but all full of natural beauty.
